The Ballet and the Orchestral Suites from « L'Oiseau de feu » are the works that now seems to us inseparable from the growing fame of the Ballets Russes and of Igor Stravinsky. The ballet was first performed at the Paris Opera on June 1910, and the musical world must have been paying particular attention to it. Although the ballets that followed, « Petrouchka » and « Le Sacre du Printemps » each time exceeded, as is often said, all the predictions of the most attentive observers! These three works, which can be compared to three dancers' leaps, historically established Stravinsky's reputation and importance in 20th-century music. While « The Rite of Spring » is certainly the most prodigious leap of the three, the fact remains that for a first attempt, « The Firebird » was a real masterstroke. Although the influence of Rimsky-Korsakov (his professor) is apparent. This work asserts an originality which strikes us even more in hindsight. It is impossible not to recognize the youth of a musical genius. The orchestral mastery asserts itself with a vigor comparable to that of Hector Berlioz. An innate virtuosity is manifested there, common to both composers, and revealing of their poetic genius. It's by forging that one becomes musician. *Lucien*
Great performance! Bravo Tutti! Especially bravo for the final cymbal crash!
The first time I've ever listened to Stravisnky. I was not disappointed
Ich liebe und bewundere dieses ganze Stück. Greife auch immer wieder zur Partitur und schaue mir was ab. ;-)
Freut uns, dass es Ihnen so gut gefällt. 😃
